Please visit the Durham County Council website to view or download the school holidays dates for this academic year and next year for all community schools, special schools and voluntary controlled schools. Please note that voluntary aided (church) schools, foundation schools and academies may have set different dates and you should check with the school or academy to confirm their arrangements or view the PDF for schools not following the standard term and holiday dates.

School Holidays During Term Time
From September 2022, the Government are taking a tough stance towards low attendance and poor punctuality (lateness) at school and expect schools to do the same. They have released updated guidance to schools to emphasise this. The key messages are outlined below:

Working Together - Schools and parents are expected to work together to ensure children attend school regularly and on time and understand any barriers.

Shared approach - Schools are expected to share their approach to attendance with families in a clear consistent manner and are expected to act on this policy.

Act Swiftly - Schools are expected to act swiftly when parents do not engage with school to improve attendance and/or punctuality. This could include a referral to the Local Authority for parents of children with low attendance/poor punctuality and who have not engaged appropriately with school to improve this.
Schools will not authorise holidays unless in very exceptional circumstances. A referral to the Local Authority for any unauthorised holidays taken will be made.
